A Walk In The Clouds

Date
Oct, 08, 2015

So we’re on cloud nine, because this engagement session is heaven. Shot at Lake Blanche in Big Cottonwood Canyon, these images from Tyler Rye are equal parts rugged, radiant and romantic. We’re talking out-of-this-world gorgeous — right here in Utah. We asked the bride-to-be, Katie, to share what led her and her man to this engaging spot. Here are her words.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to stand on top of the world, surrounded by clouds, with nothing but untouched nature enveloping you? Hot and cold is a perfect combination of words to describe our shoot at Lake Blanche. The hike to the top was long, sweaty, steep, and downright miserable. And once at the top, the wind and altitude dropped the air to what felt like arctic temperatures. Despite these harsh weather fluctuations, this location was worth the major “messy-bun hair” and frostbitten fingers. This is by no means an “easy” hike, and we were so grateful for Tyler and the time he had devoted to our session. He made us feel comfortable, and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to really meet our photographer in a way a lot of people don’t get to. Our pictures turned out nothing less than unbelievable. There is something so magical about being in the mountains — and having a photographer who understood that was so important to us. Hundreds of camera clicks, blue lips, and two layers of clothing later, we began our descent down the mountain trail. The light faded quickly, and luckily Tyler had reminded us to bring headlamps, or we would probably still be wandering around up there. This experience will be one I am unlikely to forget; looking at our pictures will always inspire me to live life like the adventure that it is.
