From Bobby Pins to Lash Glue

You’ve done it! Everything is planned, you have the dress, the caterer, the flowers (and of course, the fiancé). But what happens when it’s finally your wedding day and you need some extra bobby pins, or a needle and thread to fix a last-second tear? Or maybe, you just need some deodorant and lip gloss—no matter what it may be, preparing for any wedding day need is as easy as putting together a wedding day emergency kit.

Whether you’re the bride-to-be, a maid of honor, an aunt, a wedding planner, or anything in between, making and gifting a wedding day emergency kit can be the difference between a sigh of relief and a gasp of panic when the bride needs a last-minute solution to an unforeseen problem.

Here are some of the best things to include in a wedding day emergency kit that are easy to find and awesome to have around in a pinch! Feel free to pick and choose which ones you think are most important (A.K.A. everything) and build your own wedding day emergency kit!

Hygiene Items

Some things are just good to have around all the time—and they’re great to have around on a wedding day. Hygienic things to help that you may not be thinking about leading up to your wedding day could be items like mini deodorant, chapstick, tampons, and more.

You could also use tools like tweezers, a nail file, floss and mints, and even some extra hand lotion just in case. The best part about all of these things is that they’re small (or come in a mini version), so they’re easy to tuck away in your growing wedding day emergency kit.

Hair

Whether you hire a hair stylist or you do it yourself, having a few extra hair items on hand can be a lifesaver on your wedding day, especially if your hairstylist is long gone a few hours into your celebration.

The obvious ones like bobby pins and hair elastics are a given, but you may not have considered packing hair spray (a mini one, of course!) and an extra comb or a brush. It’s never bad to have a quick refresh halfway through your big day!

Makeup Touch Ups

The same thing goes for makeup, whether you hire a makeup artist or do it yourself, it’s never a bad thing to have some emergency makeup items in your kit to fix those post-ceremony tears or to powder your nose before the toasts begin.

The biggest makeup item we hear about brides loving is lash glue—you can re-stick your strip lashes that start to lift, and you can use it to glue jewelry into place to stop it from sliding around and potentially ruining pictures.

It’s also a good idea to have extra lip gloss, powder, blotting paper, and anything else you feel is super important for a mid-day touch-up. And don’t forget your setting spray!

Wedding Gown Fixes

We know, your wedding dress is the most gorgeous and exquisite you’ll ever wear. But what happens when you accidentally get lipstick on it when your bridesmaids go in for a hug, or lose a button? Having these items in your wedding day emergency kit can help save you from last-second accidents or rips.

A needle and thread is the most obvious answer for wedding dress fixes—just make sure the thread is white. You can also pack safety pins and extra buttons that match your dress if you have them. And don’t forget some extra lace or fabric!

Another popular thing to include that will help with any gown fixing you need is stain remover and white chalk. Just make sure any stain remover you use is safe for the kind of fabric your dress is made of!

For the brides with buttons all the way down the back of your dress, don’t forget to pack a crochet hook—perfect for speeding up the process of looping up all those buttons.

Medicine

Ideally, you’ll be in perfect health on your wedding day, but sometimes things just happen. Pack some Ibuprofen or Tylenol, along with anti-nausea medicine and allergy medicine just in case!

Band-aids are also a big one, as anyone who has ever worn heels knows. It’s also helpful to have blister remedies on hand for the same reason.

And arguably most importantly, include a granola bar and a hydration pack! Nerves and wedding day jitters can have quite the effect, so it’s important to make sure you’ve had something to eat, and even more important to stay hydrated. Especially if you end up needing any kind of medicine!

Extras

You can include other random items in your wedding day emergency kit like tweezers and clear nail polish—perfect solutions for a whole slew of potential problems that may arise. Bring extra earring backs and accessories if you need them.

This is also where you can make sure you pack your very own must-haves that we haven’t already mentioned!

Now Choose a Cute Bag For Your Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Now that you have every item on your list, find a cute bag, box, or purse to put it all in! Bonus points if it says the word “bride” on it, or “Mrs.”

A wedding day emergency kit is great to have for your own bridal peace-of-mind, and even better when one of your bridesmaids or the mother of the bride ends up needing an extra tampon or bobby pin, and you already have some on hand—or you can be the bridesmaid who saves the day by having a kit yourself!

You can even go the extra mile and make a groom or spouse version—your fiancé may not need everything you do in your wedding day emergency kit, but maybe a few of the same things couldn’t hurt.

If you’re one of the lucky ones, you won’t even need to touch your wedding day emergency kit on your wedding day, but it’s better to be prepared when something goes wrong that you can easily plan for.

And remember, at the end of the day, it’s possible that not everything will go exactly as planned, but you can relax knowing that it’s easy to not sweat the small stuff and focus on the fact that you’re getting married! There’s nothing that can’t prevent you from celebrating with your brand-new spouse, even if you do need a touch-up or a quick fix during the wedding.
