Monique Mills and KJ Malone’s summer wedding can be summed up like this – fairytale meets fun.
But let’s back up. KJ and Monique met the old-fashioned way, on social media. They had both grown up in Utah, but when they started chatting, Monique was playing basketball for New Mexico State University. When she came out to Utah to visit KJ, the first thing he did after picking her up at the airport was take her to meet his dad, Utah Jazz basketball star Karl Malone.
“KJ and I were inseparable from that day on!” Monique says. The couple dated for two years before a lavish and perfect proposal at The St.Regis Deer Valley.
When it came time to plan the wedding, Monique enlisted expert wedding planners to help bring her “Princess and the Frog” dreams to life. They brought the beauty of the Bayou to the Rocky Mountains, from the greenery (cascading ferns) to the menu (fresh beignets) to the firefly-esque decor (lanterns dotting the aisle) to the music (a live saxophonist).
La Caille‘s expansive grounds set the scene perfectly. The ceremony and dinner were held in the greenhouse atrium, KJ and his groomsmen stayed in the venue’s on-site cottage, and the couple exchanged private vows the morning of the wedding in the picturesque Quail Run Loft. (Brides, don’t forget to plan a special moment like this on your big day!)
And the Malone and Mills families know how to celebrate. Wedding-goers enjoyed photo booth fun, a personalized cigar lounge, and dancing, dancing and more dancing. It was a fairytale night to remember!
KJ and Monique Malone have roots in Utah and Louisiana, and their July wedding was the perfect blend of both. The setting showed off Utah’s mountain majesty, while the beignets, jazz music, and his-and-hers cocktails added some Southern flair.
