If you have the perfect idea in mind for your dream dress but can’t seem to find it anywhere else, why not have it custom-made?
As one of Utah’s favorite bridal shops, Alp Bridal has served brides all over the state and beyond who are looking for fashion-forward, custom-designed wedding dresses to wear on their big day. What started as an idea to create a business that made custom wedding dresses in a short amount of time became what we know and love today, and what brides are raving about long after their wedding day.
An Actual Bridal Party
When you come in for your appointment, the first thing you’ll do is take a look through their sample pieces. Of course, that comes after you’re seated in your very own private fitting room and suite.
“We pull a bunch of designs that we think she would like, and then they have a private room to themselves. And then they just kind of a party in here. They get loud.” An appointment at Alp Bridal adds a whole new meaning to the term, ‘Bridal Party!’
When you find a sample or design you like, the owner and designer herself comes in to chat with you about the dress of your dreams. “Brides usually want something that’s a little different than one of the samples—they love one dress, they want to change the neckline, they love the sleeves of another dress. And so I literally sketch out that dress.”
Custom-made wedding dress design and manufacturing all in one place? Yes, please!
A Different Idea of Bridal
Amber Pratt, the owner of Alp and mastermind behind every beautiful wedding dress, started out in Los Angeles making custom wedding dresses. “This was an idea I had when I was in college. But I never felt good about starting it until 2014. And I think honestly, my aesthetic, what I loved about bridal, the world just wasn’t ready for it.”
Her expertise and eye for fun fashion is one of the ways that Alp is so unique. “Nowadays people like interesting sleeves and maybe something that lends more towards body con. So it’s a little more fashion-forward and, you know, just a different idea of bridal.”
Amber started out small, and everything was always put back into her new business. “I would take whatever money I made from making wedding dresses and just reinvest, reinvest, reinvest, reinvest. And then a friend suggested that I open a boutique in Utah, and away I went.”
And the amazing Alp Bridal was brought right here to Utah Valley!
Utah’s Unique Fashion Needs
Have you ever wondered what Alp means? Spoiler alert—Alp is actually ALP, for Amber’s initials. Either way you say it, we love it. “And now we live by the mountains, so it kind of works out nicely.” How cute is that?
Utah was the perfect place for Amber’s background and expertise. “I always wanted to do custom bridal, make interesting designs, that kind of thing. But my background is in apparel manufacturing. So there was a little bit of a learning curve, and I think starting small was good for me.”
“But at the same time, with that background, we can make wedding dresses really fast. And so that’s kind of our shtick.”
When it comes to Utah, there’s a very unique kind of bride that we all know and love. “I wanted to serve the LDS bride because she just has such specific needs. And the only way to meet those needs is to establish a business that caters exactly to those needs. And that’s how Alp Bridal got here.”
Shorter engagements mean less time to order your dress—which is why when you get your gown at Alp, it’s not only designed exclusively for you, but made to order. And it’s made to fit you perfectly.
Something You Won’t Find Anywhere Else
You’ll have your measurements taken and then you’ll schedule your fitting appointments to come and try on your dress while it’s in the process of being made—something you won’t find anywhere else. And they get it done in record time. Something for all of our brides no matter your timeline!
“We really never say no when they come in, and they’re like, ‘I’m getting married in three weeks.’ We’re pretty good at saying yes. We’ll help you out—and we want to.”
“Sometimes brides get nervous. The fitting process is there for them to see what it looks like, and at that point, it’s so flexible. They can change their mind about something. If they’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m going the wrong direction with this neckline,’ okay, we’ll just change it at that point—super easy to change. Or a sleeve or something like that.”
Talk about a major stress relief when you’re in the midst of wedding planning, or worried about how your dress will turn out. And there’s quite literally no one better than Amber and her team at Alp to make your dress—she’s made nearly 3,000 dresses! Trust us, you’re in great hands.
Amber and her team’s number one goal at Alp is that every bride leaves happy. “We’re here for the bride. The bride doesn’t serve us, we serve the bride.” And Alp can serve every kind of bride with every kind of style.
