MADDIE HENDERSON + MATTHEW SHARFF 8.26.23

Love at first speak. “I knew I was going to marry him after our first phone call. Our souls immediately connected in a way I have never experienced. I didn’t tell him that, so I let him say ” I love you” first. He said it after the first few days we met in person,” says Maddie.

Intimate and meaningful are the two words that catch the essence of Maddie Henderson and Matt Scharff’s fairytale wedding day, as well as their entire dreamy relationship.

Maddie and Matt had hopes of a small and sentimental wedding day, and their dreams really did come true.

With only 30 people at the ceremony and dinner, and 60 at the reception, this is what micro wedding dreams are made of. “We implemented a ‘no kids’ rule, due to the delicacy of the tent. I was worried how it would be taken, but our guests thanked us for the excuse to have a night out without their children. I loved our small wedding because every attendee counted,” says Maddie.

All hands were on deck in order to create their beautiful vision of what they wanted their reception to be. The MVP of the day? Maddie’s mom’s boyfriend, Rik Crowther. He made their fairy light tent himself, as well as serving as the DJ for the night. No problem, he just had all of the equipment on hand. Because of how epic Maddie and Matt’s wedding was, he now gets hired all over the state to recreate his infamous fairy light tent at other weddings.

As you can gather from Maddie and Matt’s non-traditional wedding, they are the non-traditional couple. Their meet cute? It was a TikTok story baby, and they said YES. No amount of distance could have stopped Maddie and Matt from falling in love. Even if they were separated from state lines.

“A video that Matt posted of himself doing a Jack Sparrow impression came across my For You page on TikTok … and I slid into the DMs. I couldn’t resist,” Maddie says. “We messaged back and forth for months, and then we started FaceTiming daily. We finally decided to meet in person, and he flew from his hometown in Kansas to me in Utah. He stayed in our basement. While he was at my house, we got Covid together and spent three months in complete bliss.”

The couple then moved to Texas and began planning a beautiful couples trip to Greece. “We were going with another couple, and we all knew that they were getting engaged while on this vacation,” says Maddie. “What I didn’t know was that Matt would be getting down on one knee on that trip as well. We both came back engaged!”

Then back to Utah to get hitched. Maddie and Matt win the award for the most well-traveled couple in this issue.
