You Are My Sunshine
Take this love story as your sign to have your very own sunshine-filled Park City Utah wedding!
Kenzie and Taylor first met each other for the first time at a pub in Texas to watch a football game—despite having gone to the same school, and even being in the same business program, without ever running into each other before then. They immediately hit it off, and Taylor asked Kenzie out a few weeks later.
“He asked me out to dinner, showed up to the house with flowers, and we went to a nice steak house in town, and then ever since that first date, we’ve been pretty much inseparable.”
According to Kenzie, the first six months of their relationship were so much fun, between concerts and traveling together, but the magic really happened after the whirlwind phase of a new relationship.
“I really fell in love with him and knew he was the one when everything settled down, and we started doing the boring things, like grocery shopping together and cooking together.”
Fast forward to their engagement, which was a surprise on a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They had a trip to Maui planned for later that year, which was when Kenzie thought Taylor would propose—but he had other plans.
“We were talking about how great Jackson was, and he’s like, ‘Oh we need a reason to come back, what’s going to bring us back here?’ And I just started talking about how the weather is great, we should come to get out of the heat, and he said, ‘Well what if we got engaged here?’ And he got down on one knee and proposed, and I was genuinely surprised.”
Storm Warning
And their love story in the mountains continued all the way to a stunning Park City Utah wedding, complete with happy tears and intimate moments. But it all began with a huge rainstorm.
“We woke up to a severe thunderstorm warning, and my wedding planner Heather came to visit me just after 9:00 am. It was at that point of the day when we had to make the call to leave the plan as-is and do the ceremony outdoors—which was really important to me—or just play it safe and move everything inside.”
Kenzie decided to take a risk and keep the plan to walk down the aisle outside, hoping for at least a 30-minute window of sunshine.
“And then it poured rain, thunder, and lightning for the entire day while I was getting my hair and makeup done. I was looking at the storm outside, and morale took a little dip.”
While the rain was coming down, Kenzie took the time to connect with her loved ones, drinking champagne in the bridal suite in her pajamas and exchanging gifts with her family. And her best friend surprised her with something even more special.
“She surprised me by putting together this big bundle of letters from all kinds of different people, like family members and friends. I read through all of those, and it was really sweet.”
First Look in the Bridal Suite
When it came time for the ceremony, the rain was still going strong. They decided to start with cocktail hour since it would be under a tent. “I had actually brought a backup dress, I didn’t ever plan on changing into it, I planned on staying in my wedding dress all night. And thank God I did.”
She wanted to go out and talk to her guests without spoiling her wedding gown before the ceremony. And it ended up being the cutest second-look moment (before the first look) for what came next!
“We both wanted to attend cocktail hour, so we decided that we would go ahead and do a first look in the bridal suite.” Taylor came in and that’s when the tears started flowing. “They opened the door, and he just ran into my arms, it was really sweet.”
Take this as your sign to hire a Park City Utah wedding planner who can still make the unexpected moments perfect for your big day!
“So we ended up having a little first look, even though we hadn’t planned on it, but I wasn’t in my bridal gown. We sat down, just the two of us in the bridal suite together, and enjoyed some of the hors d’oeuvres, and had a little cocktail before going out to see everybody.”
A Sunshine Surprise
But just as they were about to head to cocktail hour, the rain stopped, and the sun came out.
“Quickly after that, my two best friends came back in and helped me get into my gown, my mom showed up too, and then all of the guests finished their drinks and were escorted out to be seated down where the ceremony was. The sun was sparkling on the water, and you would have never known that it had been raining all day.”
And then the rest of the day went according to plan!
Kenzie’s favorite moment from the whole wedding day was when she finally got to walk down the aisle. “That day had been pretty stressful up to that point, but then the sun came out, the sky was blue, and I could feel the sun shining on me, and it was just like this deep breath. Everything worked out, and we made it.”
And we can’t thank the sun enough for the way it lit up this ceremony. Just look at the way her veil is perfectly floating in the breeze. Is it possible to send a thank you note to the weather?
After their gorgeous ceremony, complete with radiant sunshine and even more radiant smiles, they headed to their dinner, which Kenzie absolutely loved.
“It was also one of my favorite parts of the wedding day, just because I felt like I finally got to sit back, take a deep breath, take in all of the love, and support, and enthusiasm around us, and just enjoy that time.”
Incredible Park City Utah Wedding Vendors
And it was all thanks to her Park City Utah wedding vendors who made everything so incredibly beautiful.
“I had worked really hard for a year putting together all these mood boards and choosing vendors, but this was the first time that I had ever seen everything all come together, and it was beyond my wildest imagination.” Even Mother Nature pitched in—making it the most lovely evening for a Park City Utah wedding anyone could dream of.
The rest of their night led to a fun and lively party, with first dances, cake cutting, and even a private last dance between the bride and groom—we love a cute last dance moment.
The biggest priority for Kenzie and Taylor as they were wedding planning, was keeping their Park City Utah wedding authentic to their relationship. They wanted to be with people they truly enjoyed, wanted to do things they truly enjoyed, and didn’t want anything to feel like a performance.
And we can tell based on their smiles in the photos alone that that’s exactly what happened. “Having a genuinely enjoyable experience for the two of us was definitely our north star.”
From a rainy sunrise to a beautiful sunset, Kenzie and Taylor’s Park City Utah wedding was full of love and precious moments between the unexpected ones. Take it from these two, you’ll want to spend forever with someone who can make you happy—even when skies are gray.
