Sierra + Zach

It’s Magazine Monday! And today we have a closer look at the Costa Rica destination wedding of two local surf-hearts. It’s a can’t miss, friends.

Surf’s up. Sierra Broadbent and Zach Spaulding’s romance began in the halls of Lone Peak High School. “He was known as the popular kid and I was more of a shy, studious type,” Sierra says. “The day he randomly yelled hi to me from across the hall I turned red. I knew him, of course, but I had no idea he knew I existed.” The pair quickly fell for each other and went on to date for seven years. The proposal took place in Costa Rica, where Zach’s parents own a home. He brought Sierra there on a family trip and popped the question near their favorite restaurant.

Zach and Sierra decided to continue their love story in Costa Rica and get married beachside. The big day started with a sunny morning ceremony, an authentic Costa Rican dinner, and a reception full of toasts and dancing. Sierra’s gown was a two-in-one delight — she wore the casual white lace version at the reception and the more formal, flowy gown for bridal photos and the ceremony.

Did she take that incredible dress into the ocean to surf? Why yes, yes she did. “I could hardly sit on the board because my dress was so heavy,” Sierra says. “But being so incredibly happy with my new husband — out in the water doing what we love — just made everything feel so perfect.”

Sierra and Zach’s destination wedding in Costa Rica was the ultimate in beachfront, barefoot vibes — which photographer Katie Byrd shot with fun and fancy flair. Sierra especially loved her ring, custom made at Forge Jewelry Works. “Highly, highly recommend them!”
