Pretty PSA: The Second Wedding Dress Trend Isn’t Just a Good Idea—It’s a Wedding Day Essential
Here’s the 2025 bridal trend you didn’t know you needed: two dresses—because you’re twice as fabulous. Here at Utah Valley Bride, we’ll never say no to more than one bridal look. Why settle for one show-stopping wedding look when you can have two (or three, or four)?
Different things can impact whether or not you choose to change halfway through your big day—like budget, function, preference, and more. But when it comes to bridal fashion, more is definitely more.
Whether it’s because you simply can’t choose or because you want room to party on your wedding day, there are a lot of benefits to having a second wedding dress.
No matter why you may want to have a second wedding dress (or third, or fourth!), there’s nothing that says you can’t! You’re the bride—whatever you say, goes. And there are so many different ways to make a second dress yours. Here are a few of our favorite ways to change it up!
Gown Goals: The Case for a Second Wedding Dress
Picture this: you’re walking down the aisle, in the dress of your dreams, about to say, “I do,” with the love of your life. You’re wearing the most exquisite, ethereal, exceptional wedding gown anyone has ever seen, with miles of train behind you and a veil that makes you look like a goddess.
And maybe your dress is heavy. All those layers that make up a ballgown don’t just look amazing, they also weigh a million pounds. Or maybe it’s fitted to you so tight that it hugs and accentuates your curves to the point of leaving your new spouse drooling—and leaving you without room to get low on the dance floor. Or maybe you just want to switch it up because the vibe of your ceremony was heartfelt and heavenly, but your reception will be the party of a lifetime.
Let’s be real, it’s impossible to pick just one dress these days, there are so many stunners to choose from. If you want to walk down the aisle in an extravagant ball gown and then have a simpler, sleek look for your dinner and first dance, do it! Or of course, do it the other way around.
The possibilities are endless, and it ultimately comes down to what you want for your wedding day experience. Sometimes you just need more than one, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Mini Dress, Major Moment
We love a good short-dress moment! Especially if it’s part of your original wedding dress. One moment you’re walking down the aisle in a gorgeous ball gown, and the next moment you’re whipping off the skirt with a flourish to reveal a mini underneath. And no one loves a mini for the dance floor, or for cutting the cake, or for your getaway look, more than us. Who says you can’t have your cake and wear two dresses too?
Or maybe your second look comes from your sleeves—long, lacey lovelies for your I-dos, and then a sleeveless look for the after-party. Who doesn’t love a good two-in-one wedding dress?
Another favorite 2025 bridal trend of ours regarding mini dresses is the brides who turn an heirloom into a vintage mini moment. We’ve seen brides try on their mother’s wedding dress, or grandmother’s, or an aunt or a bestie, and shorten it for their second wedding dress. Whether it’s a fun surprise mid-reception, or they’ve been in on it for every fitting, it’s a wonderful way to bring in your “something borrowed” and add a little extra sentiment to your day.
Either way, don’t forget to take some jaw-dropping photos with your mini dress and a long veil for even more second-look drama!
The Getaway Look That Leaves Them Speechless (Again)
Everyone loves to switch it up for the send-off, whether it’s through a tunnel of sparklers, bubbles, rose petals, or even on a slip-n’ slide. We’ve seen tracksuits, jumpsuits, and swimming suits galore. Like we said, the possibilities are endless!
Deck yourself out in sequins, fringe, feathers, or ruffles, and pair it with a mini veil and some dazzling footwear as you ride off into your happily ever after. Or throw on a cowboy hat and boots for your getaway horse.
Switch It Up, Slay It Down
At the end of the day, choosing a second wedding dress for your reception—or a second look for your send-off—can be anything you want it to be, whether it’s for comfort, convenience, or just because you want one. Any second (or third, or fourth!) bridal look will be perfect, because you’ll be the bride wearing it. It’s your big day—you deserve a wardrobe change (or two).
And you don’t have to look far and wide for a second dress! Whether it’s from the same bridal shop where you got your original dream dress, or you found it on the rack at a thrift store, your second look will be the way to bring your whole wedding vision together.
No matter how many bridal looks you choose, the most important thing is feeling fabulous, confident, and ready to celebrate the best day of your life. No matter if you’re rocking a dreamy ballgown, a chic mini, or a fringe-tastic getaway outfit, your wedding day is all about you.
