The Morning Of Your Wedding
Happy Magazine Monday! This one is extra special because we’re giving you an inside look at the article that made the cover, all about getting ready wedding photos and tips for your ‘morning of.’
Even amidst all the chaos and emotions of your wedding day, the most important thing is that you are prioritizing your peace, and that can look like anything from creating the perfect playlist to sipping on your favorite drink, or reading a sweet love letter from your spouse-to-be.
Here are a few tips on how to make the most of your morning as you’re getting ready to walk down the aisle.
Tip One: Sleep
This one is the most obvious, but the morning of your wedding starts the night before. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep (or at least trying to) so that you can wake up refreshed and well-rested. There is literally nothing worse than being too tired to focus on a day like this, especially in the likely long hours of sitting in the makeup chair!
We know you’ll be so excited you can’t imagine getting a second of snoozing, but you’d be surprised at how much you’ll be able to sleep, so make it a priority!
Tip Two: Two Playlists
Make two playlists for the morning of your wedding or whenever you’re getting ready. One will be a collection of your favorite jams that get you pumped and everyone excited; the other will be something that helps you stay calm and relaxed when you’re nervous, feeling overwhelmed, or needing a few moments of quiet.
Are you looking forward to jamming out with your girls in matching silk pajama sets, or would you prefer slow love songs to help keep you calm? Maybe you’ll put on the upbeat tunes before realizing you need a quieter and more relaxing vibe. That’s why you have both!
Or maybe you’ll start with the chill vibes and then, as you’re taking your getting ready wedding photos and popping that champagne, you turn on the pump-it-up playlist! Ultimately, you’ll be able to know best what you need, and there’s nothing wrong with switching it up based on your nerves in the moment!
Bonus Tip: Designate one of your bridesmaids or wedding party members to be the vibe checker! It can be their job to check in with you to see exactly what you need while you’re enjoying the moment!
Tip Three: Timing and Location
Decide with your hair and makeup artists ahead of time when you’ll begin getting ready, and whether you want to be in the middle of the whirlwind of the getting ready suite, or secluded off for a few moments of quiet. (This is where your playlists come in handy!)
Many makeup artists recommend not going first, but also not going last in the chair lineup. You don’t want to go too early because you want your hair and makeup to be as fresh as possible for your “I do,” but you don’t want to be at the end in case you end up needing more time than you thought.
If you’re in the room where it’s all happening, you’ll likely be interrupted by people arriving, giving out hugs, and the overall joy that surrounds you on a day like this. If that’s your vibe, plop yourself right in the middle of the room. But if you know you’d prefer a more intimate experience with fewer interruptions, feel free to have your hair and makeup team move into a different room altogether before you rejoin the rest of your party after you’re finished. This will also give you a fun reveal with your bridal party when you show them the finished product!
Bonus Tip: Give another bridesmaid the task of ordering from your favorite soda shop or coffee shop to sip on while you’re in the makeup chair! Us Utah girlies know how big a difference it makes to have your go-to drink on hand.
Tip Four: Take Getting Ready Wedding Photos
If you’re on the fence about taking getting ready photos, here’s your sign to do it! Everyone loves a moment in curlers and those embroidered robes with your bridesmaids, and let’s be real, when you’re all glammed up like this, no one will object to more adorable photos with the girls.
We also love a good first look with bridesmaids, and the photos are just as sweet as the toasts and slipper details. When you’re surrounded by the people who love you and know you best, you’ll inevitably capture those sweet and fun memories of being with them.
Your getting ready wedding photos will also be another great opportunity to slow down, take a deep breath, and prep for what’s about to come with those who helped you get to this day. As your mom or sister or best friend zips you into your gown, laces up your heels, and tucks in your veil, it’s that once-in-a-lifetime moment to hug, cry a little, and revel in the fact that you’ve been waiting for this your whole life. These will be some of the most cherished photos from your wedding day!
Bonus Tip: The groom gets photos too! Trust us, you’ll absolutely love the shots of him putting on his suit jacket and fixing his cuff links. And he’ll love looking back on these moments with his groomsmen just as much.
Tip Five: Love Letters to Each Other
One of the sweetest wedding traditions is when a couple writes a love letter to each other to read before the ceremony. Whether you write it ahead of time or while you’re getting ready, and if you send it to their suite or read it to them at your first look, it helps you center yourself and prep for the big moment.
And of course, there is nothing like hearing from the love of your life to help you relax your nerves before you finally get married!
You made it! You put on the gown, every pin is in place, and now it’s time to celebrate!
Temple Wedding Tip: Just because you’re walking out of the temple instead of down the aisle doesn’t mean you have to miss out on those getting ready moments! Use your morning to get ready with your girls, capture those cute photos, and relax before you drive to your sealing. Or, you can take getting ready wedding photos between your sealing and your next event at your reception venue!
