Disco I Dos

This St. George wedding will have you matching your disco balls to the classic Southern Utah red rocks we all know and love.

Mkinlee and McCoy first met during an airsoft war at a friend’s house—McCoy “proposed” an alliance and Mkinlee agreed, and then turned on him. Luckily he wasn’t all that upset by the battle betrayal, because the very next day he reached out to Mkinlee so they could get to know each other a little better!

But they were living far apart—Mkinlee in St. George and McCoy in Northern Utah. A year after they first met though, the battle continued on their first date laser tagging, and they were inseparable ever since.

After five years of being together, McCoy proposed once more—this time for marriage, and they said I do in a beautiful St. George wedding.

“Our engagement was perfect for the two of us. On August 15th, 2023, McCoy suggested we go out to get dinner. We went to one of our favorite local spots, and following dinner, grabbed some dessert to go. He drove me up to Dixie Rock and we went for a little walk. On that walk, he so casually got down on one knee and popped the question. I said yes, and that was it! So simple, so quick, and just the two of us, it was perfect!”

Planning the Perfect St. George Wedding

For Mkinlee, wedding planning was a fun process, getting to focus on the details of their wedding with her husband-to-be, all made easy by her wedding planner Laura from Forevermore Events

“Wedding planning was so much fun for us! We had the world’s best wedding planner who made the whole process so enjoyable and stress-free. The hardest part of wedding planning was just deciding what vibe we wanted to go with, because there are so many good options!”

When it came to choosing the vibe, she started with the colors—and the disco balls—Mkinlee knew she wanted.

“We chose our colors right away and everything else just fell into place.” We’re rocking with the disco balls scattered around in every photo—including Mkinlee’s stunning disco ball of a wedding gown. And the hot pink and orange color palette is the perfect combo to bring out the fun. Talk about a party!

Disco Details

Part of what made the process so enjoyable was deciding on their top three priorities early on; “We wanted our guests to have fun and feel comfortable.” They also wanted to include little details throughout the venue that were personal to them. And last but definitely not least, “a short and sweet ceremony.”

One of those little details that made all the difference at their St. George wedding day was Mkinlee’s grandpa’s old classic car—a hand-restored 1955 Chevy Bel Air on display.

But that’s not all, they had signature cocktails named after their dogs Daisy, Harlow, and Nova, and his and hers ice cream flavors. Mkinlee and McCoy had details of their beautiful love story incorporated into every corner of their celebration.

While they were deciding every detail, their favorite moment was seeing the place where it would all come together. “The most memorable moment for us when it came to wedding planning would have to be walking the venue while in the planning stage. Seeing it in person and imagining it all done up made everything feel so real and exciting.”

Sudden Storm in St. George

When it finally came to the week of their St. George wedding, it was a roller coaster leading up to the wedding day.

“Leading up to the wedding I was the sickest I’ve ever been. I was in and out of the doctor’s office with multiple rounds of antibiotics, just not feeling good at all! Luckily we have the world’s best family—they really pulled through and got all of the last-minute things done that I was hoping to do the week of the wedding.”

When Mkinlee started feeling better, they kicked off their St. George wedding celebration with a rehearsal dinner with family and friends, including a casual game of golf.

Following a sleepover with her bridesmaids, and McCoy with his groomsmen, they woke up to a day with perfect weather. And then the storm rolled in.

“Before we could even get out of the car, a huge storm rolled in and I was devastated, as our entire wedding was supposed to be outside. Our decor was flying away, the flower arch went into the pond, and everything was soaked from the rain. All of the vendors and guests who had already arrived were so kind and reassuring, telling us that it would be okay and that rain is good luck on your big day.

“The rain went on for what felt like ages so we decided to postpone the ceremony by 30 minutes. Once that 30 minutes was up, the storm had passed and the weather was absolutely beautiful! My florist, wedding planner, and everyone else had done an incredible job at getting everything dried and put back together. We resumed as planned and it was perfect!”

Take it from Mkinlee, not even a sudden storm can ruin your wedding day when you’re surrounded by the best wedding vendors. “It was out of our control and upsetting for a moment, but it created the most beautiful rainbows and calm after it was over.”

Party People and Lots of Love

After the storm, and their gorgeous wedding ceremony, they partied into the evening with their loved ones. They couldn’t pick a favorite moment from their St. George wedding if they tried—but they can say for certain that they loved spending it with friends and family.

“Something really special to us was seeing everyone who had come to be with us on our big day. We felt so loved and so special.”

And their wedding guests had just as much fun as the bride and groom. “It was just a big party! People danced and laughed until the venue shut us down. They loved the vintage VW bus photo booth.”

All that time and love put into choosing the perfect details paid off. “We loved how all of the colors came together, the disco balls mixed in with the florals, the food trucks. Everything came together better than we could have imagined.”

Mkinlee’s advice to couples planning their own wedding is simple. “Hire a wedding planner! We couldn’t have done it without her and her team. And don’t stress the little things—something will most likely go wrong—and it will still be the best day of your life!”

From a sudden storm to a night full of perfect disco ball moments, Mkinlee and McCoy’s St. George wedding was a beautiful night full of love for one another, shared with their guests. Take this as your sign to pick out wedding colors that will complement your backdrop—just like these two did with the sunset-stricken red rocks.
