It’s Magazine Monday — on a Tuesday! (Mondays, amiright?) And today we have a closer look at this Vineyard couple’s dreamy destination wedding to Lummi island. Come fly with us. (P.S. You’ll find their epic bridals at both the beginning and end of the post — they’re THAT good.)
HOMETOWN I grew up in Pleasant Grove, Richie grew up in Midway. We currently live in Vineyard. MEET CUTE Richie and I met as desk mates at work and became best friends. I’ve always loved that we started with that foundation. PERFECT PROPOSAL He tricked me! He said a friend wanted to grow his photography portfolio so we went up to Sundance for “a shoot.” When we got there I was mad because it was the perfect setting to propose, but I was convinced Richie wasn’t going to do it. I’ll never forget the little smirk on his face when he got down on one knee. PLANNING We did a small destination wedding in Lummi Island, Wash. Richie’s parents have a house there and we took our immediate family and friends for a romantic celebration. BEST BITE The paella! Shrimp, oysters, clams, potatoes, rice and all sorts of yummy spices and sauce cooked up in a large pan — a delicious seafood fest! VENDOR FAVE Summer Taylor was an absolute dream to work with. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. ALL-STAR ACCESSORY My great-grandmother’s “forget-me-not” earrings. She passed away three years ago and left them to me. It meant so much to have a piece of her with me. FAMILY FIRST Our families were amazing and organized a flash mob during dinner. It included singing, solos, and choreographed dancing.
Kaylie and Richie’s wedding day look was rich and romantic — from Richie’s emerald green suit to Kaylie’s classic gown. “I felt timeless and like my gown could have been worn in the 1940s or 2020,” Kaylie says. Another standout detail? The shades of champagne and gold in Kaylie’s bouquet.”Because we had to travel for the wedding, fresh florals were not in the cards. Our florist, Gracefully Bloomed, used faux flowers and they were incredible. I still have my bouquet as a centerpiece in my house!” The ceremony took place looking out over the ocean, and an evening reception was held in a rustic renovated airplane hanger. And every image by Summer Taylor Photography is lit with magic.
