GRACE ETHINGTON + JOSH HADFIELD | 8.31.23
Welcome to their beginning. After graduating high school, Grace Ethington and Josh Hadfield were both featured on BYU’s incoming freshman Instagram page. They messaged for a few weeks, but the romance wasn’t ready to materialize. When they were both home from their church missions, Josh commented
on Grace’s post about a half marathon she had run.
“He slid in the DMs,” she laughs.
The first date was a soup and sandwich combo at Zupas. A year later came a romantic and mystical engagement.
During their courtship, Josh asked Grace to be his girlfriend at the lantern festival in Tooele. This dreamy theme floated into the proposal. In Flynn Rider style, Josh lit the pond at his parents’ Lehi home aglow with water lanterns. Grace said yes in a canoe surrounded by a scene straight out of a dream.
“Lanterns have always been our thing,” Grace says. “We’ve talked about being a light in each other’s lives. When we pulled up to his house and the whole pond was lit up, it was gorgeous. It was the best day ever.”
The smitten couple had a ceremony in the Payson Utah Temple, then made their way to party at the River Bridge Event Center in Spanish Fork.
“We had a little moment during all the craziness where we knelt down and got in our first couple’s prayer,” Josh says. “That was my favorite part of the entire day.”
The lyrics of their song “I like your soul” by Lee Brice was etched on every
kiss, dance and prayer throughout the day.
“Love is fun,” Grace says. “It’s also putting the other person first in everything you do.”
Bold, bright and beautiful.
“My favorite colors are pink and yellow – bright colors are my thing – and I really wanted to do sunset colors for the wedding,” Grace says.
Andrea with Flamingo Friday executed that vision with precision.
“She surpassed any expectation I had,” Grace says. “Andrea instantly had my vision and made me feel confident in her.”
Taking some welcomed creative liberties, Flamingo Friday created a pink, orange and yellow ombre floral arch, along with an elegant, sweeping florabunda down the staircase. Oh, and a flower chandelier, which was Grace’s favorite accent piece.
