How to Have a Great Dance Party at Your Wedding
Happy Magazine Monday! Take it from us, and every Utah bride we’ve talked to, a great dance party has the potential to be the highlight of your wedding day. Whether it’s singing your heart out all night long with sparklers and glow sticks, or it ends with a splash into the pool, this is quite literally the biggest party of your lifetime.
The point is to party, so PARTY!
Here are some of our go-to tips on how to have a great dance party at your wedding.
Hire a DJ
Ten times out of ten, hiring a great DJ will make your dance party go from meh to amazing!
Not only does a DJ know how to get the dance floor going, but they often offer MC services for the rest of your wedding day. An MC will keep everything on track and running smoothly for your ceremony, keep the good vibes going during cocktail hour and your reception, and of course, know exactly what it takes to get even the shyest guests to break it down, get low, and wobble, baby, wobble.
Let’s face it, your cousin with a Spotify subscription won’t have the same effect as a professional. For some, that’s perfectly fine, but if your priority is a party that will have everyone talking about it for years to come, your best bet will be finding a mix master who knows how to time the hits and the drops perfectly.
If your biggest fear is a lame party with sub-par music coming out of someone’s phone, here’s your sign to get that DJ you’ve been waiting for!
Tell Your Guests to Come Prepared to Party
There’s nothing wrong with telling your bridal party and your guests ahead of time that they’d better come ready to dance. Getting everyone hyped up and excited to end the night by jamming to your old favorite songs from when you were in school together, or tunes that have the best memories attached to them, will make all the difference in getting folks on the dance floor.
UVB Tip: It doesn’t hurt to have a great playlist! Work with your DJ ahead of time to make sure you play the songs you love, and invite your guests to send you their song requests ahead of time too!
It Starts With You
You and your spouse are the main event, so wherever you go, your guests will follow. There’s nothing better than a bride and groom at the center of the dance floor, getting lower and partying harder than everyone there. Your amount of excitement will set the bar for everyone else!
UVB Tip: During your first dance, invite couples out to the floor to dance the last minute of the song with you, and as your DJ starts the dance party, everyone will already be on the dance floor!
Make a Splash
If you’ve always dreamed of ending your wedding by jumping into the pool, do it! The same goes for anything else; whatever you consider to be a great party, that’s how you party at your wedding. Riley and Will understood that, and so did their guests! It’s clear from these photos that the pool was the move, even in everyone’s gowns and glitter. You really can’t fake that kind of joy!
UVB Vendor Tip from DJ Russ Powell:
“Don’t make your family work your wedding. Hire a DJ within your price point who has experience, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Know that a great MC comes at a premium price and can make or break your wedding.”
“Ten years from now, people probably won’t remember the details of your wedding; they will remember how they felt. Create a vibe that speaks to you and a party that amplifies your personalities. One of the easiest ways to build your dance floor is to set expectations with your family and wedding party. Tell them that they are your party starters and to bring the energy!”
