Since 1948, Duke’s Jewelers has been a staple of Springville Main Street, bringing stunning hand-made custom engagement rings to brides and grooms of every generation. Originally started by the current owner Kim Ngarupe’s great-grandfather, Melvin Duke, it’s been in the family for the past 77 years—and that’s just the beginning.
“I took it over last year. It’s a family business for me—my great-grandpa opened it in 1948. He was trained as a watchmaker during World War II and then came back to Springville and decided a few years later to open the store.”
Kim grew up visiting the store when her dad was the owner, and even worked there through high school and college, before she took over as owner after his retirement. “It’s kind of where I grew up, and I love it here. It made a lot of sense because it’s so much a part of me, it’s so much a part of this community.”

Since taking over, Kim has seen immense growth both with the jewelry design process and in the way she can best serve couples from all over. But the joy is the same.
“Our experience is very much, ‘How can we make this unique to you? How can we really bring your personality out into this ring?’ It’s something that you’re going to be wearing for the rest of your life, so I don’t want to see it on everyone else’s finger—I want it to really represent who you are.”
For Kim, finding your custom engagement ring in Utah is just like finding your own personal style in other ways. “We’ll sit down with you and get a sense of your personal style, because so much about what you’re wearing on your finger or on your clothes tends to reflect that. Typically, we start with picking out the right stone, and once you have that, then you can decide where you want to go from there.”
“Getting to know the couples is what we focus on, because that really gives us the most insight into what they would want and what they’re looking for.”
